Who are Abraham Moon and how did we help them?

Founded in 1837, Abraham Moon & Sons are one of the last remaining vertical woollen mills in Great Britain. Creating fabrics for the fashion and furnishing industries, and with a reputation for consistent quality and innovative design, Moons have long held huge esteem in the world of fashion and boast a customer base of many top fashion houses.

The challenge for our IT experts
With Abraham Moon's unfortunately having a negative experience moving to a cloud based IT environment with their previous IT support company, our challenge was not only to undo that work, but also to improve on it and give Abraham Moon's back their confidence in working with IT experts like us.

The Solution

Since becoming their IT partner 3 years ago, we have worked with them to stabilise the whole IT environment, reduced year on year costs dramatically and implemented improved security and enabled a Business Continuity program, with annual testing for the Mill.

The Results

Increased efficiency - Saved £350,000 over 3 years 

Within Moons we’ve done a lot of work on efficiency and cost saving, by bringing their systems back in-house, by cutting unnecessary services, by looking at cheaper telecoms and more flexible telecom solutions and all of those things all together as I say have worked out at being around £350,000 of savings over the three year period.

John: Hello my name is John Walsh, I’m the Chairman and Managing Director of Abraham Moon and Sons.

We are a fully vertical operation in woollen textiles and we sell into the furnishing fabrics and fashion fabrics and accessories markets. Well, a few years ago we decided that a hosted environment, so Cloud was the future and I think we got that badly wrong.

We though that we could take the servers out of the company, and hose them elsewhere with IT experts. That didn’t really work out well for us at all in that those IT experts were remote in all ways from the company and certainly weren’t proactive and weren’t helping us to push forward and we had both security and connectivity issues as well.

Chris: Hi I’m Chris Cadge, I’m one of the owners of MTech IT.

So, it’s interesting that we brought Moons back from The Cloud, or back from a hosted environment to be exact, back to on-premises, because most people have been told over the past five to ten years that The Cloud is the solution to everything.

Now The Cloud is a perfect solution for some things and for some businesses, but when it’s something like your whole business systems that you need to be working on all day every day, then that’s not always the right solutions. And so, we will work all businesses to look at what’s the right solution and hybrid, some things in the cloud, some things locally, quite often ends up being the right solution for a company.

John: We view MTech as a partner not just as a supplier of a service and we know than in all areas we can push the boundaries and they can help us know what we don’t know. We do have limited experience and expertise in IT so they can really us to push forward.

Chris: We’ve put in place secure firewalls, we’ve put in place email solutions, we’ve done phishing and cyber security training for staff, and we’ve ensured that the security is one of the biggest things that we can lock down if you like within the businesses to ensure that they can operate and trust the systems that they’r using.
