What is a VPN?

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is incredibly important when it comes to internet security and anonymity online. A VPN allows users to safely connect to another network over the internet by encrypting the connection from any of their devices. This keeps your information safe from any potential thieves on the internet attempting to capture your date for instance. This reason is the main driving force for why you many use a VPN every time they go online.

Why have VPNs become so vital for businesses?

The importance for businesses to have these is crucial more than ever. There has been a huge increase in the number of cyberattacks on businesses big and small, which has therefore increased the need for VPNs to keep all employees safe. Companies have changed the way they do business too; in terms of what devices we work from. The rise in remote working for example has led companies giving their employees laptops and other mobile devices, meaning with that flexibility, it leaves employees a lot more vulnerable. Working from a public Wi-Fi hotspot in a café, or on a train for example, is the perfect opportunity for a thief to get in and steal data – so a VPN is a lifesaver here when it comes to protecting your information when out and about.

What should you look for when choosing a VPN for business?

Ease of use is always guaranteed with any VPN, but you’ll be wanting to spend your money well. Many VPN companies such as NordVPN and Surfshark are well regarded for their great prices, constant deals and convenience, making users, business wise or personal, well protected cybersecurity wise. It may seem like a good idea to avoid paying for a VPN if you’re trying to cut costs for your business, but it is better to be safe than sorry. If your security is breached, the costs could be greater than what you’d be paying for a VPN and as said, they’re very affordable. They’re arguably the cheapest and most effective mode of cybersecurity.

Of course, security should take priority, the main reason you’ll be using a VPN. Make sure you check the level of encryption the provider offers, with 256-bit encryption being the standard for a VPN. If you can find stronger, than that’s even better.

It is also important to know what a VPN provider will retain when it comes to what you do online. To ensure your security, it’s suggested that you find a provider with a “no logging policy”. This basically means they will not save or sell data about your internet searches or the types of things you download.

Make sure you find a versatile VPN too. Getting one that supports several platforms and multiple devices is a given when it comes to a company and having lots of employees that will be using it. Luckily, most VPNs are versatile, so there’s a plethora of options out there for you.

You shouldn’t be ignorant towards what a VPN can do for your business. Cyberattacks are getting stronger, so we should take care to make sure our data is always secure, especially when running a business. Consider a VPN to keep your business safe.
